rental program details

TextbookX's new rental option is designed to make it easy to rent from our large retail selection of books or the ever expanding marketplace.

What You Are Renting

Textbookx rents new and used books from its extensive inventory as well as books from its vast marketplace. All books are considered "used" and you should expect a used book in acceptable condition. If you rented a book from the marketplace, it should be in the condition specified by the seller. If you receive a book you do not believe is acceptable, please contact Customer Service.

Rental Period

When you rent a book, the rental term begins when you receive your book. The receipt date is based upon the shipper's delivery information. The book must be postmarked by the last day of your rental period, including all extensions. If the book is not returned by that day, we will assume you are holding the book and will be charged in accordance with the provisions in the next section, Books Returned Past the Due Date.

Shipping

Shipping is covered under the Shipping Tab, also accessible from the home page.

Book Returns at the End of the Rental Period

The section under "Returns made easy" covers the process. Simply, prior to the end of the rental term, you will receive emails reminding you of the upcoming end of the rental term. Prior to the end of the term, you will receive an email with a shipping label and a packing list. Print these out. Put the rental books in a box with the packing slip, seal the box and tape the shipping label onto the box. Then just drop the box off at UPS and you are done!

Books Returned Past the Due Date or Never Returned

If your book is not postmarked by the last day of your rental period, then we assume you have extended your rental for an additional 15 days, and you will be charged accordingly. If, at the end of this extension, you have still not returned the book by the extended postmark date, then we will assume you bought the book and we will charge you the original price of the book, less any rental and extension charges, plus a 10% fee. In no case will you be charged more than the original purchase price of the book plus 10%.

We will charge your account/credit/debit card for any extension, purchase and other fees. If your account/credit/debit card declines the charge, we will contact you via email to settle your account. Any account not settled in two weeks will be sent to collections where you will incur any additional costs associated with such collection effort.

Books Returned that are Damaged

If a book is returned that is damaged or unusable and deemed to be unacceptable, you may be charged for a cost up to the price of the book, although TextbookX will retain the book.

A book is acceptable if the cover has no visible damage, all of the pages are present and the binding is sound. There can be some writing and highlighting.

A book is unacceptable if the cover has substantial damage or is missing, pages are missing or falling out and the binding is broken. If the book has writing and highlighting that alters the ability of the book to be usable, then it will be deemed unacceptable.

Extend the Rental Period of a Book You Already Rented

During the rental term, you can extend the rental in 15 day increments. All you need to do is go to the Extension and Rental Purchase section of the site. Once you purchase the extension, the term of the rental is reset to the new term.
